While on the road, Julio Languiller will be raising funds for the Lighthouse Foundation, an organisation dedicated to empowering young people to take responsibility for their own lives. The Foundation was established in 1991 with a mission to reduce youth homelessness.
Lighthouse provides long-term accommodation, care and support within a family/community environment, for young people aged 15 - 22 who may otherwise be homeless.
There are currently nine Lighthouse homes operating, accommodating up to 54 young people, with an additional 280+ young people supported through the Lighthouse Outreach Program.

What is distinctive about the Lighthouse model?
The strength of the model is that it combines the best of a family /community environment – long-term love, nurturing and caring – with the practicalities of feeding, clothing, educating and socialising. It is a program that provides an holistic, enduring approach to care, supported by 24-hour-a-day, 7-days-a-week emotional support.
Who are the Lighthouse young people? |
 |
They are young people ‘at risk’ or homeless. They come from among the many Australians aged 12 - 18 who meet the definition of homelessness. Often, they come from a background of abuse and have complex problems including mental illness, poor general health, substance abuse, limited education, unemployment, limited life and social skills, financial disadvantage, challenging and anti-social behaviour, juvenile justice history, or psychological adjustment difficulties. |
