Update Tuesday 27 May 2008
Hi Folks
There will be an important ride on Saturday, July 5, 2008 here
in Melbourne.
The primary objective will be to voice rider disapproval about
- The potential introduction of road tolls on Freeways for motorcycles
and scooters here in Melbourne, and
- The proposed concept of front ID for motorcycles and scooters.
Both pure revenue raising initiatives by the Freeway owners and
Government.
Also, collecting signatures for a petition to abolish the $56 a
year TAC tax specifically levied on m/cycles and scooters. The petition
will be given to an MP to present to Parliament probably on November
12, 2008.
The assembly area for the ride will be the Doncaster Park & Ride
- Melway reference Map 46 K1.
Suggest you get there by 11:30am for a 12:00 noon start where riders
will proceed to Frankston on the new freeway at 10 kph under the
freeway speed limit. The total distance will be around 60 kms and
the destination is the Frankston Civic Centre in Davey Street. -
Melway reference map 100 A C9.
There will be no road tolls and no entry fees or registration.
From a safety aspect, only scooters that can comfortably maintain
a 90 - 100 kph speed should think about joining the ride as well
as riders who are confident riding for this duration and speed.
Proper safety riding gear for wet weather and warmth must be observed.
All road registered motorcycles & scooters are welcome and please
feel free to let other riders know of the event.
Please note on the ride, normal road laws apply and each rider
is responsible for him/her self.
Regards
Neil Relph
